Alaska Rivers Fly Fishing Adventures
provides fly in fly-fishing float trips to a number of rivers in
Southwest
Alaska . Our aim is to put the fly fisherman on to Trophy Rainbow
and Salmon Rivers . Our float trips start at the headwaters of
the river that we are going to fish, and we spend seven to eleven
days floating the river in search of Trophy Rainbows, Kings and
other species of Salmon. We will stop and fish known holes, and
also search out new places to cast a fly. We float between two
and ten miles of river a day, and when we find really good holes,
will stay and camp for two or three nights. It is not uncommon
to find our fly fishermen casting their flies as the sun sets at
2AM in the morning. These trips are aimed at the fly fishermen,
and we do everything we can to put you in to great locales to catch
that trophy Rainbow, Grayling or Salmon. Some of the rivers we
fish hold the elusive Leopard Rainbow - known for its large spots
and its aggressive and tenacious nature. We have novice and experienced
fly fishermen on our trips, and Dick takes the time to work
with the beginning fly fishermen to help them learn the best techniques
of casting and fishing. In 2008 we are planning trips to the Alagnak
area in June (Rainbows, Kings, Char and Grayling), and the Alagnak
(Rainbows, Char, Grayling and Silvers) in August and September.
We can plan special trips to rivers of your choice, at the time
that you desire as well.

Dick Lange has been fishing Alaska rivers for over
20 years. In the last ten he has specialized in float operations
to rivers in Southwest Alaska . Our favorite fish to angle is the
Rainbow, but we often try to arrange trips to search for specific
species of salmon as well. The King, probably the most sought after
salmon is often the quarry we are searching. We also have found
the Chum, pound for pound one of the most exciting and powerful
salmon to hook and land, while the sockeye, probably the most prolific
of all the species, the hardest to catch and yet the most acrobatic
when hooked. We often will encounter rainbows, char, grayling,
chum, sockeye and kings during floats, allowing the fly fisher
to fish drys, eggs, leaches, mice and streamers during the course
of a days float. Often, you will float a whole trip and never encounter
another group or boat on the river. Here with Alaska Rivers Fly
Fishing Adventures you can experience wild Alaska, see beavers
at work, moose and caribou grazing, bears in the search of salmon,
and eagles soaring in the air with the quite tumbling of the river
as it glides by at your feet.
Dick Lange - your guide and owner of Alaska
Rivers Fly Fishing Adventures - has floated over a dozen different
rivers in Alaska over the past 10 years. He searchs for rivers
with exceptional fish and fishing conditions. One of these systems
is the Alagnak River , with its headwaters at Kukaklek Lake and
Nonvianuk Lake . The Alagnak system has cold, crystal clear water,
riffle after riffle of gravel bottom, deep cut banks, and literally
millions of fish to entice with a fly. The Alagnak has the world's
largest run of sockeye salmon, and an exceptional run of King Salmon.
It is in the heart of Alaska 's catch and release rainbow trout
area, which has provided you, the angler, with a rainbow fishery
that is unsurpassed in the world.
We will float the Alagnak,
from its headwaters down through the 'braids' and onto the flats - about
45 miles - to our floatplane pick up. The 'braids' is a 20 mile
section of the river where the river breaks up into smaller streams
and sand bars that join and come together, to split out again,
and rejoin. These bars and small streams offer hundreds of miles
of excellent rainbow holding water. We center our trip around
the braids, maximizing our fishing time in this area, with two
or three campsites of two days or more. While in the braids,
you can walk from one stream to the next, from island to island,
from bar to bar, in search for that trophy rainbow or salmon.
New, different water, everywhere you look and fish. In 2003,
one of our new clients stood in one spot, and in less than two
hours hooked and landed 38 rainbows and grayling. The average
rainbow you will encounter range from 18 to 24 inches. Last year,
the largest rainbow was 32 inches long. These fish are hard fighting,
heart stopping adventures. When that 25 inch fish skyrockets
out of the water, you stand in awe and hope you can bring him
in.

The cost of the Alagnak trips is
$2500 per person, from King Salmon to the river and return to
King Salmon. For the Alagnak River trip, you will need to purchase
airfare from your home thru Anchorage to King Salmon and return
from King Salmon. Typically round trip airfare from Seattle into
King Salmon is about $500-750.
In addition, Dick is planning to have a
fall float trip down the Alagnak in August / September for the
big rainbows and silver salmon that spawn in the river.
