Dick spent his growing up years -up thru college - living in Rockford, Illinois, and spend a couple of weeks every summer with his family fishing the lakes around Ely and Park Rapids Minnesota for Northerns, Walleye, and Bass. When he went after his masters degree, he attend USC, and spent the next 18 years in southern California. He fished the Mammoth Lakes, Owens River Valley most of the year, then would spend one or two weeks in the Yellowstone area, floating the Madison, Gallatin, Henry's Fork, and other rivers in that area. He also spent a lot of time fishing the Rivers and Lakes around Redding - the Fall River, McCloud, and Hat Creek. Dick and his wife Jackie moved to Woodinville, Washington in 1990, and since then has floated almost all the rivers on the west side of the Olynpic Mountains, to include the Ho, Soleduck, Clearwater, Queets, Quinalt; and on the south side, to include the Ho, Satsop, Wynochee, and Chahalis. He has also spent a lot of time on the Cowlitz, Skookumchuk, Lewis, Kalama, and Toutle. The rivers in his back yard are frequested often too: Skykomish, Snoqualmie, Skagit, Tolt, Toutle, Wallace, Nisqually, and Stillagamish.
